Our three simple requirements for a beer garden
Having beer does not a beer garden make and here’s why (finally, someone had to say it).
brewyork:
This place is not - nor has it ever been - a beer garden. (Photo via DoctorWho on Flickr)
We’re starting to sound like a broken record here. We’ve come across some pretty awful lists of “the best beer gardens in New York” over the summer, but this one from NYC 10 Best might be the worst...

brewyork:
Way back in the Spring, we mentioned a new craft beer bar from the folks behind Lord Hobo in Cambridge, Mass., and Alewife in Baltimore that was in the works for Long Island City: Alewife Queens (5-14 51st Ave., at 5th St., Long Island City). It takes a while to get a place up and…

Have a cocktail (or three) for me this weekend at one of these NYC brunch spots that offer unlimited drinks with your entree, courtesy of BrunchCritic! I like Essex - which doesn’t technically offer unlimited drinks…but they never keep track - and Southern Hospitality, myself.

NY Times doesn't know what a "beer garden" is,...
brewyork:
Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden is a real beer garden, but many of its imitators are not.
Yet another media source in New York has fallen victim to a mistaken definition of “beer garden.” As we’ve noted before, just because you can drink beer outside doesn’t make a place a beer garden. In addition, just because a bar has a German theme and serves German beer doesn’t make it a beer...

I coated my hair in molasses and wrapped my head in plastic wrap all in the name of beauty this weekend. You want to learn more about it, don’t you?

Theory tested: That molasses, specifically the Blackstrap variety, is chock full of nutrients and will help your hair to be stronger, healthier and shinier.

Can tea solve your beauty woes? Maybe →
beautyguineapig:
Theory tested: Black tea bags can satisfy two major beauty nuisances: red, irritated skin and puffy eyes.
I suffer from both slightly pillowed under eyes and easily bothered skin (you’re jealous I am sure). If something as simple as a wet tea bag can help remedy both of these problems, count me..
The Roots are playing in Astoria →
May 4 you can see The Roots right in your own backyard (if your backyard is a beer hall better known as Studio Square). Typically I am an “old beer garden” fan over the new beer garden but the old beer garden never had The Roots play. Tickets are $40.

Winter fun: Skating and drinking
Skating and drinking is one of those things that, on the surface, seems like a really terrible idea but could actually be fun. Drinking prevents all aspects typically associated with skating from setting in: the cold, sore ankles and embarrassment. I give you (via HuffPo) two venues to test out my theory, I expect a full report next week.
