I blame you Tory Burch. You created a craze over your very cute flats that inspired legions of copycats. Copycats who could not replicate your signature metal logo but could duplicate the ruched heel you made oh-so-popular. And there’s the rub, the literal rub, ruched heels are not comfortable. In fact, they are downright painful, they dig into your heels, and leave weird red marks. These copycats have taken something that is purely blissful, a fashion-friendly flat, and made it into something purely evil, an uncomfortable trend.

Now, one can barely find a flat that will not dig into your heels, which is such a shame because flats save our feet from city streets. Stilettos can be uncomfortable, platforms can be uncomfortable, even sandals can be uncomfortable but flat should always be comfortable. I would like my unblemished heel back, thank you.

According to Slate.com, we are certainly not free and clear yet, but all signs point to jobs (unemployment claims are falling etc). “But we shouldn’t expect job growth to come from the Fortune 500. According to a new study from the Kauffman Foundation, companies less than five years old created nearly two-thirds of net new jobs in 2007. Growth will come from the two guys subletting an office suite in Palo Alto who may be creating the next Google, or from the hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot that could be the next Chipotle.”

Unfortunately for us, New York is typically one of the last areas to recover from a recession. With my graduate school loans barreling down my door, I hope jobs are near. I worry though that for many, like myself, it may be too little too late.
